Being Indian

qʷayxnmitkʷ xʷəstalk̓iyaʔ, Jane Stelkia is the eldest member of the Okanagan Nation and Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB). Jane identifies as an Indian. She insists that avoiding the term is akin to avoiding the historical truths about what happened to the Indian people.

There are wild horses that still roam free in Oliver British Columbia. Friendships that surround the Okanagan Wild horse uncover a different perspective about where they came from.

Chief Thunderbird

It’s late June in 1950, and the cousins are stuck thinning apples on a hot afternoon. Chief Thunderbird makes use of the storm to break the monotony of apple thinning for the other teenagers in the orchard.
